Hello Dubpounders,
Just to let you know that my 1303, "Tirpitz" is currently for sale on eBay - ending next Tuesday 12th May.
So far it has 1 bid at the starting price of £600. I am just going to let the auction run and see what happens.
To my knowledge there is nothing wrong with it, apart from a broken speedo cable and a dodgy fuel gauge. Loads of welding was done last summer, so it should still be solid.
It was a hard decision to make, but 6 classic cars are more than a handful to keep running, so I think that eventually I will end up just keeping my "show cars".
I will still have my Passat, so I will not be completely without a VW. Hopefully I will still make some shows and meetings, so as to stay in touch.
Best regards,
Richard

Hello Adam,
I did not really think that you would be interested in Tirpitz, as it is a 1303, not a more desirable sloping lamp model.
I have never sold any of my cars on eBay before, so it is a new experience. I now have 2 bids at £620, but I would imagine that if I get more bids it will be towards the end on Tuesday evening.
I am not expecting to get a lot for him, but the main saving will be made by not having to tax, insure or get him through a MOT again.
If I find that I am suffering from severe "air cooled withdrawal symptoms", I can always buy another one. From my experience with my other classics, I think that it is best to buy the very best car that you can afford. This is true with my Standard 10, which I bought for £1600 and I have not spent more than £100 in 3 years. It has sailed through 3 MOTs with no faults and should last for years. It has never been welded.
Hopefully I will see you all soon. Is there a meeting at the Air Balloon on Sunday 17th May?
Best regards,
Richard

Richard my 1303 has a dodgy fuel gauge too. Is this a common fault? One minute it says the car is full then it drops to empty. Right pain.
Don't sell the bug, as Adz says sell the Passat, i'm sure there would be plenty of people on here interested. Dubpound seem to love them.
Saw another standard 10 drive down Shurdington the other week. look mint. Matt black with flames on the bonnet.

Hello Graham (Egg),
If anyone on this forum wants my 1303 they will have to be quick. It is currently bid at £750 with no reserve and the auction ends at about 8:00 pm this evening.
Unless the eventual eBay buyer does the dirty on me, it will soon be gone!
It may not look as nice as your 1303 but it has always been very reliable. Hopefully someone will be pleased with it.
Is there a meeting at the Air Balloon this Sunday?
If so, please let me know and I will try to come along.
Best regards,
Richard

Hello again Graham,
The Standard 10 you saw is well known to me. It belongs to a young guy called Martin Jennings.
He is a member of the Standard Motor Club and Cotswold Classic Car Club, that I am actively involved with.
Best regards,
Richard

Hello Dubpounders,
Tirpitz finally sold on eBay for £1024 to a guy in London.
This was the price I was hoping for.
Hopefully he will pick it up on Saturday
Will I miss him?
Best regards,
Richard

Hello Adam,
I think that I will miss Tirpitz. It never let me down once in the time I had it.
Also it took me to Cornwall twice (including last year's run to the sun) and loads of VW shows and club meetings.
The best part of owning a Beetle is the friends that you make by having one.
Are we still holding meetings at the Air Balloon on the 3rd Sunday of each month? If so, I make it this Sunday (17th May).
Please let me know and I will come along. The Passat will not be the same - perhaps I will bring my XR3i, which although is the "wrong make" is much more fun.
I hope to see you all soon,
Best regards,
Richard

Hello Dubpounders,
Tirpitz was collected by the eBay buyer yesterday afternoon.
He was a young guy from New Zealand who intends driving it around the UK and possibly Europe. As he is partly though a 5 year work visa here, he reckons he will take it back to New Zealand with him in a couple of years time. I wish him good luck.
He came down on the train and drove the car back to his home in London. I received a text from him saying that the car purred along and got him home with no problems. Tirpitz never missed a beat in the 3 years that I owned him, so I was not surprised.
How long does it take for the severe air-cooled withdrawal symptoms to kick in?
Best regards,
Richard

"How long does it take for the severe air-cooled withdrawal symptoms to kick in? "
youll see one out and about, start thinkin....i never should have sold mine! foam at the mouth, start getting the jitters, and eventually end up buying another one, much shitter than the one youve sold, for more money, and spend the rest of the day thinking...why the hell did i buy this!
lol
